Star Thrust Racers rulebook contains 6 racecourse designs. You may use these for your games or as examples from which to design your own racecourses. The set-up time of a 6 or more player game, including the placement of Nav-Beacons, Space Stations, and the Start-Finish line, and allowing players to custom design their space racers, to the start of the first turn, can easily be completed in under 30-minutes. Star Thrust Racers is designed with fast play and quick resolutions at its forefront, allowing players more time to concentrate on gameplay and strategy. Games usually take between 2 to 2-and-a-half hours depending on the number players involved, with minimal player waiting times during game turns including maneuvering and combat resolutions.
Gameplay surfaces with 1.0, 1.5, 1.75, or 2.0-inch hexes are recommended. The diagram on the left uses 1.75-inch hexes, which is considered the ideal hex size for a 48x72-inch game mat. If using 1.0-inch size hexes you should use smaller game mats (48x36 or 48x48-inches). If you are using game mats with hexes larger than 2-inches, you may need to play 2-lap races or use more than one game mat. It is the number of hexes on the playing surface, not the game mat size, that is important.
PDF game board files are provided with the game rules with four hex size options: 1.0, 1.5, 1.75, 2.0-inch. These PDF game play surfaces are given in two sizes, 24x36-inches and 36x36-inches and are designed to be printed out using a print service, such as Staples, Office Depot, etc. The game markers provided in PDF with the game rules are designed to fit these hex sizes. |

Space Stations play the important role of Pit Stops in races where damaged Space Racers can go for quick repairs. 3D Space Station models can be purchased through Shapeways.com or can be scratch built. Photos, instructions, and where to obtain inexpensive parts to make amazing, easy to scratch-built Retro-Sci-Fi Space Stations are included in the Star Thrust Racers game rules.
